So, let’s start our talk with the history of boats, shall we? 

• Boats have been around for thousands of years. Can you suggest the year? 
• I’m sure you’ve heard that Egyptians who lived a long time were clever guys and gals. And that’s why many people say they’re the first humans to use boats a lot. I think it’s true because the Egyptians made solid and beautiful pyramids. Some are still standing. Geniuses, right? 
• These guys and gals were smart. They used papyrus plant fiber to make long and narrowboats. The boats were for traveling short distances and catching fish along the Nile.
• They learned new ways of making more robust and better boats. 

Here are some examples of vessels the Egyptians made.

• They designed wooden boats from acacia trees and cedar from Lebanon. The ships could move fast due to the sail the people of Egypt added.
• You know what happens when you repeat a skill. You become better. So, the Egyptians created cargo ships for carrying about 500 tons of goods. That was massive at that time.
•  And they were also so kind to make funeral boats. But the Egyptians believed that if a person died, they continued living somewhere. They buried the dead person with a ship to travel to the afterlife.

• We can use engines to drive boats. 
• Have you ever bought something big from a far country? Your item could have been transported by a cargo ship.
• The stern is the ship’s or boat’s rear (back).
• The boat’s front is called a bow.
• The boat’s body is known as the hull.
• What do you call the right side of a boat facing forward? It’s called starboard.
•  But the port is the boat’s left side.
• A pilot is in charge of an airplane, but a captain is the boss of a vessel.
• Thinking of a boat ride? Make sure you’ve got a lifejacket. They make you float on water.
• Which one between a flat surface boat and a V-shaped bottom vessel moves faster? A boat with a flat bottom travels slower because it touches the water as it moves.
• Propel means to move, steer, and control.
• A paddle or an oar moves a vessel through the water. 
• Conquer means to defeat or invade.
