Clowns are always the life of the party, aren’t they? So colorful. What’s the first thing you think of when you think of the word “clown”?

Big floppy shoes? What color are they?

Crazy clown face? What color is it?

Clowns are fun to color!!

Clown hair is never the same as yours or mine. There is so much more freedom in coloring clowns than coloring any other kind of people doing their jobs. Because really, clowns are just like us, but they are clowns when they go to work. I know for sure that I would not be anywhere nearly as interesting to color as a clown. Coloring clowns is an experience like no other!

Plus, clowns are always doing the silliest things. They have an infinite number of props they can use in their clown act, which makes coloring clown pages all the more enjoyable. Clowns are always getting involved in some hijinx of one kind or another.

Oh, and balloons! The balloons are just another reason why coloring clowns can bring so much joy to one’s heart. Unless, of course, the clowns you are coloring are evil scary clowns.

What do you think of coloring evil clowns? I don’t think I would like it so much, just because evil clowns give me the heebie-jeebies if I have to look at them for too long.

Speaking of clowns and balloons:

When I think of clowns, I think of orange right away. That’s the first color section I’m going to in my crayon box or box of colored pencils. Something about the shades of orange, almost all of them, says “clown” to me. How about you?

Maybe bow ties are your thing. If so, I can surely understand why! I mean, there is so much variety among bow ties. They can have stripes on them, polka dots, or even checkers, right? So much fun to color. You can get creative when coloring clowns and their bowties.

A fun thing I like to do when coloring clowns is this: First, I “color” the clown hat with a regular glue stick. Then, I throw some glitter on that clown hat. Now the clown is a disco clown! I was somewhat disappointed that I didn’t see “Disco Clown” officially listed as a type of clown, but I am still surprised to learn that there are many more types of clowns than I initially believed.

Check out all these clown categories you could work your coloring magic with:

Whiteface Clown:

Self-explanatory, right? I’m going to have to research these next ones:

Character Clown:

These clowns imitate familiar characters in life, usually authority figures. People who can afford to hire clowns for their parties can employ character clowns for social events. Inept detective, maybe?

Tramp Clown:

Hobo clowns in tattered garments. Clowns in this category can be happy or sad.

Jester Clown:

This clown’s job is to make the king laugh without losing his head.

Auguste Clown:

August may mean idiot or buffoon in the German language. Clumsy and not very bright are words we would use in the English language to describe clowns who fall in this category.

Creepy Clown:

I didn’t look this up because I want to sleep tonight. You know what this is.

Mime Clown:

These clowns are known for pantomime or emoting through body language and facial expressions.

Rodeo Clown:

Probably the fastest of all clowns, these clowns delight rodeo attendees by taunting bulls and other rodeo animals.

So many clowns, so many colors, so little time.
