Ever had one of those weird gender-related dreams? Well, I have had quite a few during my lifetime, but none like the one I had a couple of days ago.
So there I was, seven years old, playing with my five-year-old sister, Cissy. Nothing weird about that, right? Well, there definitely was-I was no longer a boy! Instead, I was a girl, wearing a dress and everything! From being Cissy’s elder brother, I had suddenly become her elder sister! Ughh!
And you will never guess what we were playing at together- a game us “sisters” had invented together called: Let’s Colour My Dress.
Children love coloring books. Featuring beautiful dress coloring page illustrations, these dress colouring pages figuratively baby-sat us with their themed dress arrangements. To make coloring the dresses even more exciting, we came up with Let’s Colour My Dress. Our game went something like this, each of us had several dress coloring pages suitable for dinner, lunch and work. Cissy and I took turns making up short make-belief stories of dates we were going out on.
It`s always interesting and exciting to choose the color of the dress yourself-but it’s super exciting to be helped by another “lady”. Depending on the occasion, what our date would be wearing and the weather, we would then help each other pick out a dress from each other’s wardrobe of dresses coloring pages that we thought best suited for the occasion. Whereupon we would then help each other color it so that it goes well with the available accessories, the occasion, the date’s clothes and, of course, the weather.
Of course, what’s great about coloring dresses is that they come in different designs and girls simply love them. Little girls love to colorfully decorate dresses, more so, when they are coloring page dresses.So you can imagine the fun Cissy and I had dressing each other for our different dates.
Let’s Color My Dress
Most little girls dream of becoming a princess they read about in princess fairy tales such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White. Dresses coloring pages fulfil these desires of becoming gorgeous princesses.
Cissy was the first to go. This was her situation was as follows:
Occasion – Fancy Ball
Date’s Clothing – Green, cream and black pilot’s uniform
Weather – Fine, warm evening
Available Accessories – Green emerald earrings, satin cream slippers, golden crown
Together, we went through Cissy’s wardrobe of dresses, coloring pages. Finally, for her date, since this was a special grand occasion, we chose for her the ball-gown below.
Owning a beautiful gown is almost every little girl’s dream come true. Unfortunately, for most, gowns in the form of dress coloring pages are the closest they ever get to one.
Anyway, once we had both agreed this was the best choice from her wardrobe, we proceeded to color it in such a way that it matched with her date’s uniform and her available accessories. As such, we largely colored her gown cream, with green sleeves to match her date’s uniform and her green emerald.
Next it was my turn! (cringe)
This was my situation:
Occasion – Picnic in the park
Date’s Clothing – Denim jeans, floral shirt, brown cowboy boots and bandana
Weather – Hot, steamy afternoon
Available Accessories – Yellow straw hat, yellow picnic basket, multi-colored necklace
Together, we went through my wardrobe of dresses coloring pages. After some arguing over the available choices, for my picnic date, we finally agreed on a floral Mexican-style sleeveless dress with pleats and frills. It is the dress below.
Once we had both agreed this was the best choice from my assorted wardrobe of dresses, we proceeded to color it in such a way that it matched with my date’s casual wear and the accessories available to me.
Coloring a dress bears testimony of a child’s creativity. It’s a good way to showcase their talents and to keep their minds active. Bright colours attract and are mood changers. They act as endorphins. Given the colorfulness of the occasion and its promise of fun, we creatively colored the bottom of my address as multi-colored as we possibly could to march with my date’s multicolored shirt and to match my multi-colored necklace. At the top, we colored yellow and denim blue to match some floral parts of the bottom of my dress and the yellow straw hat.
