One of my favorite coloring themes to play with is gingerbread houses. I simply love the rich detail and yummy richness of these coloring pages. As a child, I used to spend Christmas with my nan making gingerbread men, and she would always have a gingerbread house ready when all the children gathered for the festivities.
If I was lucky, I could help her decorate the gingerbread house. It was any child’s dream to glue on sweets and treats all over the crunchy gingerbread the house was made from. When I color gingerbread houses, I can almost smell ginger again, and I am transported back to those happy days.
Gingerbread House Basics
When my eldest daughter recently graduated to coloring pencils from crayons, I sat with her as we colored this basic gingerbread house. This is such an easy design, making it great for kids to start with. However, all the basic staples of a gingerbread house from my childhood are there: candy canes, jelly tots, spiral suckers, frosting, and, of course, the gingerbread that holds it all together.
While we were coloring this page, we both giggled and sucked on candy canes while we filled in all of the wonderful details and enjoyed the innocence of that first gingerbread house. I missed my nan something awful at that moment, but I was also grateful for the fond memories and how I get to relive them with this basic gingerbread house.
My daughter loved the gingerbread house coloring page so much that she insisted we do another. I chose this slightly more complicated design which has a more mature look. The lines are a little finer, with more detail, making it a more challenging page for my eager child. She loved it even more. While she went over the lines here and there, I assured her that life isn’t just about coloring in the lines. This house is where she could explore and have fun. Each of the liquorice sweets and large candy buttons are there for her enjoyment.
Keeping in the Festive Spirit With Some Gingerbread Houses
When the Festive Season hits, we all want to be home and busy preparing for fun with our loved ones, but sometimes, we have to attend meetings at the office. It’s a serious drag. Fortunately, these adult coloring pages of glorious gingerbread houses help me stay focused on what matters while doing my duty to work.
I simply love this one by GingerbreadExchange. The details are glorious, and there is so much to do that meetings fly past while I color this page. For my office coloring sessions, I keep a special set of fine tipped pens that have vivid colors and smell so delicious when I’m working. I love the red ink for the jelly buttons, and I adore the chocolate brown pen for the gingerbread sections. I usually turn to a bright silver tip for the frosting on the gingerbread house’s roof, and each of the heart-shaped pavers is there to remind me of my nan’s delicious gingerbread melt-in-the-mouth biscuits.
Finally, when I am running through my pre-festive week checklist of all the things I still need to do, I am easily soothed by coloring this page. Nothing says Christmas like a gingerbread house snow globe. It’s simply delightful to color the beautiful Christmas roses and ribbons, while the falling snow reminds me of the night before Christmas and waiting for my gift as a child. I adore the little snowman and his wife, and the candy canes are at a cheeky angle, reminding me not to take life too seriously.
